Phoenix Lodge No. 8 A.F. & A.M.'s Charter of 1793

After the formation of the Grand Lodge of North Carolina in 1787, the Brethren of Union Lodge No. __ duly voted to turn in Union's charter from the Grand Lodge of Scotland and accept a charter from the Grand Lodge of Ancient York Masons of North Carolina under the name of Phoenix Lodge.

From 1788 to 1793, Phoenix Lodge operated under a dispensation from the Grand Lodge of Ancient York Masons of North Carolina.  In 1793 this dispensation was returned to the Grand Lodge and Phoenix Lodge received its first official charter from that grand body.  Phoenix Lodge operated under this charter until 1796, when it received a new charter.

It is not known what became of the original charter of 1793.  Presumably it was returned to the Grand Lodge of North Carolina in 1796.
